Finisterre and Muxia

To the end of the world

Finisterre and Muxia are often the ending point for many pilgrims and in Roman times Finisterre was the end of the world as they knew it.  Finisterre in Latin is finis terre “the end of the earth”. Fisterre is the name of the town and a popular destination for pilgrims who have finished the Camino and want to extend their journey by foot or bus.

The end of the Camino is sometimes hard to deal with if you have been walking for weeks and arriving in Santiago may make you feel something is missing.  Traveling to Finisterre and Muxia is an excellent emotional and psychological end to your journey as it is a clear fact that you have gone as far west as you can and there is NO MORE land to walk on.

There is something magical and emotional about watching the sunset over the ocean.  It is a time to be thankful for everything you have experienced on the Camino, about your arrival at the end of the world, to say goodbye to your Camino life, and get ready to start a new chapter in your life.  Visiting Finisterre and Muxia is a bonus and highly recommended if you can squeeze it into your schedule. Buen Camino.
